WESTFORD — Nashoba Valley Technical High School has announced its students and athletes of the month for September.
Students of the Month
Students of the Month are selected based on the school’s “Portrait of a Graduate” attributes: Resourceful, Responsible, Resilient, Respectful and Ready.
Hannah McAnulty, of Pepperell, daughter of John and Emily Edwards, is a senior in the Early Education & Care program and is planning to enroll in college to major in Elementary Education. She is an honor-roll student, a freshman mentor and a member of SkillsUSA. This is her second time being named Student of the Month.
Hannah was nominated by two staff members.
Bob Musto, Nashoba Tech’s school resource officer, wrote: “Hannah has an amazing personality. She is kind, sweet, polite, friendly, courteous and respectful. She recently went out of her way to help me put together a presentation for some classes. She is a huge asset to the NT student body and community and will very hard to replace when she graduates in June.”
Kyle Stumpf, a permanent substitute teacher, echoed those comments: “Hannah never fails to put someone in a good mood when they’re having a bad day. She is always respectful toward everyone.”
Owen Santos, of Chelmsford, son of Paul and Ludovina Santos, is a junior in the Plumbing & Heating program who is interested in attending college before embarking on a career in the plumbing field.
Owen was nominated by two staff members.
English teacher Courtney Nugent wrote: “Owen is not only kind but is also thoughtful. He is always asking teachers and peers how they are doing, and he genuinely cares about the people around him. Additionally, Owen is the perfect representative of Nashoba Tech’s Portrait of a Graduate. He is one of a kind and such a joy to have in class.”
Spanish teacher Amy St. Arnaud wrote: “Owen is a natural at languages and loves to learn and practice Spanish and Portuguese. This career-ready skill will help him connect with others and build relationships. Owen is a kind and respectful student and participates frequently in class.”
Athletes of the Month
Alanna Alden, of Chelmsford, daughter of Rick Murdock and Jennifer Hill, is a junior cheerleader. She is in the Veterinary Science program and participates in Nashoba Tech’s Early College program. She was inducted into the National Honor Society as a sophomore.
Alanna was nominated by cheerleading coach Christine Patenaude, who noted her dedication and leadership.
Chase Carney, of Chelmsford, son of Paul and Holly Carney, is a senior football standout this year for the Vikings, who started off the season 6-0. Chase excels at wide receiver and safety. Through six games, he had accounted for 11 touchdowns — seven by air, three on the ground and one on a return.
Chase has been inducted into both the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society in the Carpentry program. He is an honor-roll student and a freshman mentor. He also plays basketball. He hopes to attend college and to continue his football career.
Chase was nominated by football coach Matt Dawson, who said of all the players leading the undefeated Vikings more than halfway through the season, Chase has been “our best player.”
