Billerica’s Hailee Thurman receives national honors

Hailee Thurman, a Billerica resident and current junior at Lexington Christian Academy, has been inducted into the National Society of High School Scholars and received the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award from The College Board’s National African American Recognition Program.

The National Society of High School Scholars recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship, and community commitment.

“On behalf of NSHSS and our co-founder Claes Nobel, a member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes, I am honored to recognize the hard work, passion, and commitment that Hailee has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,” NSHSS co-founder and President James W. Lewis said in a statement. “Hailee is now a member of a unique community of scholars — a community that represents our very best hope for the future.

“We are proud to provide lifetime membership to young scholars to support their growth and development,” Lewis added. “We help students like Hailee build on their academic success by connecting them with learning experiences and resources to help prepare them for college and meaningful careers.”

Hailee holds a GPA of 4.25 while participating in Lexington Christian Academy’s Theatre Program, Chamber Singers, and playing lacrosse. Hailee is a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Billerica, where she has been a part of the Sea Wolves Swim Team since age 6. Hailee also dances at Ellens School of Dance in Billerica. Her goal is to become a cardiothoracic surgeon.
