Chelmsford High’s October Students of the Month

CHELMSFORD — Six Chelmsford High School seniors were honored as Lions Pride/Rotary Students of the Month for October, Principal Stephen Murray announced.

Sponsored by the Chelmsford Rotary Club for over 30 years, the Student of the Month program recognizes outstanding students from each of Chelmsford High’s three academic houses for their achievements both in and out of the classroom.

Students receiving recognition were Caroline Pitts and Tejas Raja from Emerson House, Jennifer Yu and Jason Dou of Hawthorne House and Sophia Roy and Nate Hart from Whittier House.

Caroline Pitts

A member of the World Language Honors Society, Pitts is currently enrolled in Pre-Calculus, Modern World Literature, AP Psychology, History Through Film, Civics and Career Exploration.

Pitts has been a member of the Deans Council since her freshman year and is currently the secretary of the Mentor Board, which connects upperclassmen with freshmen to help ease their transition into high school.

Described as “a natural leader,” Pitts serves as a Tundra Leader for CHS, where she shows her support for the entire school by rallying her classmates to attend athletic events for all sports.

When she’s not supporting her peers, Pitts, a three-season athlete since her freshman year, can be found on the ice or the field, competing in ice hockey, lacrosse and field hockey.

Following graduation from Chelmsford High School, Pitts plans to attend a four-year university to study business.

She is the daughter of Kelly and Ed Pitts.

Tejas Raja

“An exceptional student who excels academically and leads by example,” Raja is currently enrolled in AP Psychology, AP Calculus, AP Spanish Language, AP English Literature, AP Computer Science Principles and Civics.

His academic success has earned Raja membership into the National Honor Society (NHS), the National Spanish Honor Society (SHH) and the National Speech & Debate Association Honors Society.

Raja, who serves as an ESL mentor, has also been recognized as a Commended AP Scholar with Honors and has received the Hackathon Award, which only goes to the top five students.

An active member of the Speech and Debate Club, Class Reps and the Wings Initiative, Raja also serves on the board of the Mentor Program.

He was also a valuable member of the JV boys basketball team during his freshman and sophomore years.

In the future, Raja plans to attend a four-year college to major in computer or electrical engineering with a concentration in AI systems.

He is the son of Shiva and Reenu Raja.

Jennifer Yu

A student with “a strong work ethic,” Yu is currently enrolled in AP French Language and Culture, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Psychology, AP Calculus, AP United States Government and Politics, and AP Research, alongside Guitar 1.

Yu’s dedication to her studies has earned her recognition as an AP Scholar with Honor and induction into the NHS.

Additionally, she has been awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award for both 2022 and 2023, the Princeton Prize in Race Relations and has been named a Boston Certificate of Accomplishment Honoree.

Actively engaged in numerous extracurricular activities, Yu serves as the captain of the Debate Team, the president of the Freshman Mentor Program, and is the founder of the Body Positive Alliance.

Outside of school, Yu holds the position of national vice chairwoman of the High School Democrats of America and is a national ambassador for Eating Disorders Research, Policy and Action.

Following high school, Yu plans to attend a four-year college, where she aims to study political science and pursue a career in public service.

She is the daughter of Julie Leh and Chen-Hsiang Yu.

Jason Dou

Currently taking a rigorous course load that includes Computer Science A, Literature and Composition, Physics C, Biology, Statistics and Psychology I, Dou has been inducted into the NHS and the National English Honor Society (NEHS).

He was also awarded the prestigious William and Mary Book Award.

“A true leader in every respect,” Dou serves as the president and viola section leader of the orchestra, is a participant on the math team and a member of the CHS Pit Orchestra.

Dou has been a member of the CHS swim team for the past four years, achieving the conference champion award in 4×50 Freestyle Relay.

He participated in soccer as a freshman and cross country his senior year.

Outside of CHS, Dou participates in the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Greater Lowell YMCA Swim Team and the Russell Mill Swim and Tennis Summer Swim and Dive Team.

Next fall, Dou plans to double major in neuroscience and computer science.

He is the son of Hu Dou and Xu Wang.

Sophia Roy

Currently enrolled in AP Literature and Composition, AP Research, AP Psychology, AP Physics 1, AP Spanish Language and Culture, Pre-Calculus, Health and Mentoring, Roy’s hard work has earned her membership in the NHS, NEHS, Science National Honor Society (SNHS) and SHH.

Roy is very involved in extracurriculars as a member of the Speech and Debate Team (co-captain), Women in STEM Club (board member), Ted Ed Club (president), The Thursdays, CHS Theater Guild (treasurer) and the Science Club/Science Olympiad. She is also vice president of the SNHS.

Known as a fierce speaker, Roy has been recognized locally and nationally for her abilities in speech and debate tournaments.

For Informative Speaking, she was recognized as the 2023 State Champion and has placed multiple times at the Yale Invitational. In Original Oratory, she was named a State Champion in 2024 and placed in numerous events including the Harvard Tournament and the Yale Invitational.

Outside of CHS, Roy can be found volunteering at the National Brain Tumor Society, Billerica Cat Care Coalition and Emerson Hospital.

After graduation, Roy plans to attend a four-year university and double major in neuroscience and English on a pre-med track in hopes of becoming a specialized surgeon in women’s health care.

She is the daughter of Magdalena Roy.

Nate Hart

Currently enrolled in AP Literature and Composition, AP Calculus, AP PLTW Computer Science Principles, Civics, Orchestra and Student Government, Hart’s hard work in the classroom has earned him membership in the NHS, NEHS and SNHS.

“A beloved member of our school community,” Hart is a member of Class Reps, CHS Mentor Program, CHS Orchestra, indoor and outdoor track and field teams and the cross-country team.

He serves as the co-president of the orchestra, double bass section leader, the vice president of the Class of 2025 and a Rotary Youth Leadership Award recipient.

Hart has been recognized as an MVC All-Star multiple times, won the 600-meter State Championship in indoor track and qualified for the New Balance indoor nationals.

Outside of CHS, Hart volunteers at the Chelmsford Food Pantry as a donation assistant and serves as a camp instructor for the Middle School Track Camp.

After graduation, Hart plans to attend a four-year university and study mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering.

He is the son of Maria and Daniel Hart.
