TYNGSBORO — Tyngsboro High School has announced its Students of the Month for November.
Olivia Balkan, daughter of Wendi and Mike Balkan, is a two-year member of the National Honor Society. She has received numerous awards such as the AP Scholar Award, the Academic Excellence Award, Outstanding Achievement in Social Studies, Outstanding Achievements in Theatre Arts, the Commitment to Learning Award, and National First-Generation Recognition. Olivia is a member of the theater program and has been for seven years where she is the head student costume designer. Olivia has earned numerous awards through theater, including Best Supporting Actress, Excellence in Costume Design Award, and Excellence in Hair and Makeup Design Award. She is a member of the Yearbook Club and student government where she has served two years as the class treasurer. Olivia has served her community by volunteering at Lowell General Hospital. Her hobbies include singing, drawing, playing guitar, and sewing, and her favorite subjects are English and anatomy. Olivia’s future goals are to become a nurse, raise a family, and be surrounded by people who love her.
Kaitlyn Guilmette, daughter of Kim and John Guilmette, is a two-year member of the National Honor Society. She has received numerous awards such as the Academic Excellence Award, the Principal’s Award, and the Core Values Award. Katie is also a member of the yearbook club, the Student Council vice president, the BioBuilders Club, a Morgan’s Message Ambassador, and a HOBY Ambassador. She has been a member of the varsity field hockey team for three years and the varsity lacrosse team since eighth grade and was named captain her senior year. She also has been playing club lacrosse for the New Hampshire Tomahawks for five years. Katie has participated in community service such as the Tyngsboro Block Party, the Give Kids the World service trip, Tyngsboro Festival of Trees, and Catie’s Closet. Her hobbies include hanging out with friends, shopping, and traveling. Katie’s favorite subjects are AP Biology and calculus and she plans to attend college to study biology and then go to medical school to pursue a career in medicine.
Sudar Meyyappan, son of Sujatha and Meyyappan Meyyappan, is a four-year member of the National Honor Society. He has received numerous awards such as, the Academic Excellence Award for four consecutive years, the Core Values Award, and the Commitment to Learning Award. Sudar is a member of the Student Council, BioBuilders Club, Chess Club, and Robotics Club where he has been the president for the last two years. He has also participated in athletics such as being a four-year member of the soccer and tennis teams. In tennis Sudar was named captain for three years and was a MID-WACH All-Star twice. He is also an Eagle Scout. Sudar’s favorite subjects are chemistry, physical education, and computer science. His future goals are to attend college, go to medical school, and eventually become a doctor.
Addison Strong, daughter of Susan and Rob Strong, is a two-year member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society where she served as the secretary for two years. She has received numerous awards such as the University of Rochester Bausch and Lomb Science Award, Outstanding Achievement in English, Outstanding Achievement in Mathematics, the Commitment to Learning Award, and has been on the high honor roll all four years. Addison is a member of the Yearbook Club, Medical Professionals Club, Senior Sidekicks, and Ski Club. She has had a great career in athletics while at THS. Addison is a member of the varsity girls’ soccer team, was named captain her senior year, and was awarded Lowell Sun All-Star. She also was the TYSA girls soccer captain and participated all four years. She has participated in community service such as volunteering at the Nashua Soup Kitchen with her church, Grace Community Church. Her hobbies include listening to music, going to Boston, and watching hockey. Addison’s favorite subjects are math and AP Literature. Her plans include studying mathematics in college and finding work in actuary sciences.
