Nashoba Tech’s February students, athletes of the month

WESTFORD — Nashoba Valley Technical High School has announced its students and athletes of the month for February.

Students of the Month

Students of the Month are selected based on the school’s “Portrait of a Graduate” attributes: Resourceful, Responsible, Resilient, Respectful and Ready.

Makenna Farrell of Chelmsford, daughter of Edward and Teresa Farrell, is a senior in the Cosmetology program and is Nashoba Tech’s nominee for the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators’ Walter J. Markham Student Award.

Makenna is an honor-roll student and has been inducted into the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. She is a freshman mentor, a member of SkillsUSA and the Horticulture Club, and has served as captain for the volleyball and softball teams. She works for Carousel Cuts in Billerica through Nashoba Tech’s Cooperative Education program, and she plans to continue working in the cosmetology field after graduation.

Susanna Floyd of Westford, daughter of David Floyd and Laura Grenato, is a senior in the Design & Visual Communications program. She is Nashoba Tech’s nominee for the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators’ Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Award.

Susanna has been inducted into the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society. She is a member of SkillsUSA, earning a team silver medal in spring 2024 in Chapter Display at the State Competition, as well as a team silver medal in 2023 for Precision Laser Imaging. She is a high-honors student, a member of student government, and served as editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. She has received a full scholarship to UMass Lowell to study international business and marketing.

Samuel Hesketh of Westford, son of David Hesketh and Shannon McGrath, is a senior in the Carpentry program. He is Nashoba Tech’s nominee for the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators’ Outstanding Vocational Secondary Student Award.

Sam is a high-honors student, and has been inducted into the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society. He is a freshman mentor, a member of SkillsUSA, a student representative on the Nashoba Tech School Committee and captain of the cross-country, indoor track and spring track programs. He works for Liberty Homes in Sudbury through the school’s Cooperative Education program, and has been accepted into the Honors College at the University of Maine, where he’ll study construction and engineering technology.

Athletes of the Month

Natalia Jaramillo of Westford, daughter of Jesse and Juana Jaramillo, is a senior wrestler who closed out her historical career by winning the State Vocational Championship in the 126-pound weight class. She won the State Division 3 Championship and placed third at All-States.

Natalia is an honor-roll student in the Cosmetology program. She is a member of SkillsUSA and received a silver medal in Cosmetology last year in the District Competition. She plans to attend college to study psychology while working in the cosmetology field.

Alessia Palmisano of Pepperell, daughter of Frank and Stephanie Palmisano, is a junior who competes for the indoor track team in the 600-meter run, mile run and long jump. She was also Nashoba Tech’s first-ever competitor in the Massachusetts Indoor Pentathlon Championship, where she set personal bests in three of the five events.

Alessia is in the Plumbing & Heating program. She is an honor-roll student and a member of the Newspaper Club.
