CHELMSFORD — Six Chelmsford High School seniors were honored as Lions Pride/Rotary Students of the Month for November, Principal Stephen Murray announced.
Sponsored by the Chelmsford Rotary Club for over 30 years, the Student of the Month program recognizes outstanding students from each of Chelmsford High’s three academic houses for their achievements both in and out of the classroom.
Seniors receiving recognition were Garrett Russell and Gemma Bardouleau from Emerson House, Naomi D’Souza and Delia Schiefen of Hawthorne House and Benjamin Redding Cooper and Maria Kesablyan from Whittier House.
Garrett Russell
A member of four honor societies, Russell had a rigorous course load this semester, including AP Computer Science Principles, Principles of Engineering Honors, AP Research, Reality Check, Sociology, AP Literature and Composition, AP Calculus and AP Physics.
Inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS), National English Honor Society (NEHS), Science National Honor Society (SNHS) and Spanish Honor Society (SHH), Russell is a Commended AP Scholar.
Active in the Physics and Engineering Club and the Coding Club, Russell also plays a vital role on the CHS Tennis Team. When he’s not on campus, he can be found volunteering at Drane Engineering.
Russell plans to attend a four-year college to study mechanical engineering with hopes to one day work in the space industry.
He is the son of Lisa and Laurence Russell.
Gemma Bardouleau
A member of the NHS and NEHS, as well as an AP Scholar, Bardouleau was enrolled in AP Literature and Composition, Pre-Calculus, AP Research, Band, Sociology, AP Psychology, Anatomy & Physiology and Reality Check.
In addition to being a drum major in the Marching Band and captain of the Dance Team, Bardouleau is active in many school organizations including Melting Pot Club, Leadership in Motion Everywhere (LIME) and the Asian Student Organization.
When she’s not at school, Bardouleau can be found volunteering at the Chelmsford Public Library.
Upon graduation, Bardouleau plans to attend a four-year university to study psychology, with aspirations of becoming a therapist.
She is the daughter of Stephanie and Graham Bardouleau.
Naomi D’Souza
Inducted into the NHS, SNHS, NEHS and National Language Honor Society, D’Souza took an impressive array of courses including AP Calculus, AP Spanish, AP Statistics, AP Literature and Composition, Anatomy & Physiology, Digital Music and Project Lead the Way Engineering Principles.
D’Souza is active in many extra-curricular activities including the Get Involved Volunteer Everywhere (GIVE) Club, the Interact Club, the Mentor Program and Student Government. She also participates in several team sports, including Swim and Dive, Cross Country, and Indoor/Outdoor Track and Field.
When she’s not on campus, D’Souza volunteers her time with the Youth Leadership Council, Lowell General Hospital Volunteering Team, Manhattan School of Music, the Archdiocese of Boston Music Ministry, the Senior Living Community Service and Fairhaven Healthcare Rehabilitation & Nursing Home.
D’Souza’s future plans include going to college to study biomedical engineering in order to continue her pre-med path.
She is the daughter of Delise and Lester D’Souza.
Delia Schiefen
Enrolled in challenging courses like AP Literature and Composition, AP Calculus, AP Psychology and Anatomy and Physiology, Schiefen is a member of the NHS, NHES, SNHS and the French Honor Society.
Beyond the classroom, Schiefen is active in LIME, the Mentor Program, the Dance Team, and has served as a class representative.
In addition, Schiefen has participated in and organized many community service activities, including Drive Through Trick or Treat, the LIME Talent Show Fundraiser, the LIME 24 Hour Relay Fundraiser, the Carlisle Playground Building Project, Rise Against Hunger and TEDx.
After high school, Schiefen plans to continue her education to receive a doctorate in physical therapy.
She is the daughter of Deidre and Steve Schiefen.
Benjamin Redding Cooper
A National Merit Commended Student, Redding Cooper had a challenging course load this semester, which included AP Literature, AP Environmental Science, AP Spanish, AP Biology, AP Psychology, AP Statistics and Biotechnology I.
He is also a member of the NHS and World Language Honor Society (WLHS).
Redding Cooper is very active in school organizations, including Robotics Club, Speech and Debate Team, the Mentor Program, Melting Pot Club, LIME and Best Buddies. He is also a member of the Winter and Spring Track and Field teams.
His community service efforts have included 24-Hour Relay, Project 300, McCarthy Recycle Day and the Chelmsford Stewardship Committee.
Redding Cooper plans to continue his education in college studying environmental science.
He is the son of Holly Redding Cooper and Jeff Cooper.
Maria Kesablyan
Inducted into four honor societies, Kesablyan was enrolled in AP Chemistry, AP Research, AP Literature, AP Calculus, Honors Physics, Honors Anatomy and Physiology and Sociology.
A member of NHS, NEHS, SNHS and WLHS, Kesablyan has been recognized as an AP Scholar and a National Merit Commended Student. She was also the recipient of the Tulane University Book Award.
In addition to her studies, Kesablyan is involved in the Mentor Program, the Melting Pot Club and the CHS Track Team.
Beyond the classroom, Kesablyan is the chairwoman of the Armenian Church Youth Organization of America and has volunteered with Wounded Hero Women’s Guild and Armenian Wounded Heroes.
In the future, Kesablyan plans to study biomedical engineering and eventually attend medical school.
She is the daughter of the Rev. Khachatur Kesablyan and Anna Kesablyan.
